Andrea Behrman, President of Heartland Helpers, is a Mathematics teacher in the Kansas City, Kansas Public schools at Sumner Academy. She also coaches Volleyball, Basketball and Track at the middle school level.
In addition to her position in the public schools, she is the co-owner of a local business: Jerry’s Sports Pub.
In 2014, Andrea was inducted into the Washington High School Hall of Fame for her accomplishments while in high school. Her contributions to the community through her business and Heartland Helpers include: bags of school supplies for elementary students, clothing and food drives for community partners and sponsorship for a variety of community organizations.
Andrea is a supporter of local sports teams such as the KC Royals, KC Chiefs and KC T-bones. When there is spare time Andrea enjoys traveling with friends or relaxing with a good book.
Little known fact about Andrea: she was in the group Missouri Honors Choir that sang on opening day when the KC Royals received their 1985 Championship Rings.
Steve Shead brings a true passion for children and community involvement.
Steve has been an insurance agent with Farm Bureau for 8 years. His desire for helping people lead him into the insurance industry.
Steve has spent many years volunteering and fundraising for organizations like Special Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Autism Speaks, Down Syndrome Guild of KC and now for Heartland Helpers. His urge increased when his son Danny was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. He is also one of the original three that began Heartland Helpers.
Steve his wife Nicole and son Danny reside in Smithville, MO and look forward to developing Heartland Helpers into a genuine influence in our Community.
Jill attended Pittsburg State University and graduated in 1991 with a Marketing Degree. After working in the marketing field for about 10 years, through volunteering she found that her true passion was working with children with disabilities. She returned to school to receive my Master’s Degree in Special Education and graduated in 2003. After graduating she taught middle school Special Education for the DeSoto School District for 13 years and also at the 18-21 year old program focusing on vocational and independent living skills.
Jill joined with her friends to create Heartland Helpers and they are very proud of how it is becoming a true resource for the community.
She has 2 children, Cody who is 24 and attends an HVAC program, and a daughter, Caitlin, who will graduate KSU this year with a degree in Psychology.
